I've seen the 5-Series up close, my boss had one for a few days on test. I guess for the sporty M class they've reduced the weight by taking out the wasted parts that BMW drivers never use i.e. wing mirrors, indicators etc...

Overall I'd say the 5-Series is a little bit too dull... I saw a beautiful silver 350Z this weekend... mmmmmmmmm
