The Importance of Appearance
For those who don't feel that good design makes much of a difference, consider exhibit 'A'.
Both are designed to do roughly the same thing, namely fly around and reproduce, but which one earns the greater respect and appreciation, which one is your eye naturally drawn towards?

Plus, one makes us delicious honey, is always landing in our lemonade. I think that the form is one thing, but the function of the design (honey maker/cute inhabitant of children's stories verses drink messer upper/namesake of the bug swatter) is important too.
Plus, the colors of the bee probably reguster more strongly with us because they are nature's universal "warning, this is a toxic animal" colors. We've just been taught to percieve that reaction as "oh look at the cute bee".
