Music has always been a hugely significant factor in my life. At the very least it has proved to be an effective maker of time — many important times are stamped into my memory by the familiar tones of a favorite song. On Wednesday of this week, Louise and I got to place a musical marker at the end of 2005 as we experienced Coldplay at Earls Court in London.
What defines a world-class live act such as Coldplay is their ability to conjure a mood! You could just tell that everyone present had the same sense of sadness as the first few notes of ‘The Scientist’ found their familiar frame, or the feeling of excitement as the simple yet compelling guitar of ‘Talk’ blasted outwards to the delight of the wide-eyed crowd.
‘Politik’ was also a highlight for me, the last minute or so is an extraordinarily well crafted piece, played live it was everything I had hoped for.
The night ended with a particularly passionate rendition of ‘Fix You’. The perfect ending to the second best live performance that I have ever witnessed.
