Over the last few years creativity in all its forms has been unleashed thanks in no small part to technology, this website is a celebration of that fact. Expect me to waffle on about pretty much anything that might, however tenuously, be linked to art and design.

The view from here

I've been ill for a few days, this afternoon I was treated to a lovely meal! I wonder what the cat was so interested in? ;)

Limpo e Verde

The Creative Life is proud to be clean and green. We only use biodegradable and non-hazardous products (i.e. coffee and the odd chinese chicken sub) to bring you this blog ;) Logo is copyrighted to the owner of this blog, me!

One quick 360° head twist and he was as right as rain :)

Power and Precision

Its easy to take to power of Mac OSX for granted, but then something happens to remind you just how far Apple haved pushed the OS in just four years. In OSX (much like in Windows) when you press 'Apple' + 'Tab' an app switcher appears in the middle of the screen. Today I activated the switcher only to find that all the icons were tiny, the reason? I had loads and loads of apps open and running, not just little apps, but huge ones such as Photoshop CS and InDesign CS. Now I only have a humble PowerBook G4 1.25ghz and just 700mb of RAM, not a superfast machine by todays 2XG5 standards--which goes to make my point even more effectively.

It will be interesting to how Longhorn runs on a 4 year old Dell laptop in 2006. Longhorn will be the first Window OS with a 4 generation (vector based) GUI, it's taken Apple four years to get the OSX GUI up to speed (now even running nicely on a 32mb card), I somehow doubt if Microsoft will get it right on its first effort. Don’t get me wrong I'm sure it will really fly on a circa 2006 graphics GPU, but a four year old GPU? No. Hang on a moment, I've just had a thought. Is the GUI one of the things Microsoft have had to downgrade in order to hit the delivery date? ;) Perhaps Longhorn not even going to get a vector base GUI anyway.

Back to my main point, its taken Apple fours years, but what a result. Mac OSX = Power and precision! Best OS Ever™

Best Book Covers, Part 1

If you look at this picture and immediately feel a wave a mixed emotions then I guess you must be familar with 'The Life of Pi'. Thank you Yann Martel. I must do some research into the origins of this wonderful cover, just look at the balance of just this small section of it!

Introducing The Mac mini Cooper!

It's only a matter of time before Cooper Garages cotton on to this one. The Mac mini Cooper--you could even fit little spot lights to the front of it, cool! They could retrofit a G5 and add a little chrome Apple badge!

Gavin DeGraw

My tip for 2005's best singer songwriter.

Belief, makes things real.
Makes things feel, feel alright.
Belief, makes things true.
Things like you, you and I.

Tonight, you arrested my mind.
When you came to my defense.
With a knife in the shape of your mouth,
in the form of your body, with the wrath of a god.
Oh, you stood by me.

Belief builds from scratch.
Doesn't have to relax, it doesn't need space.
Long live the queen and I'll be the king.
In the colour of grace.

Tonight, you arrested my mind.
When you came to my defense.
With a knife in the shape of your mouth,
in the form of your body, with the wrath of a god.
Oh, you stood by me, belief.

I'm going to yell it from the rooftops.
I'll wear a sign on my chest.
That's the least I can do, it's the least I can do.

Tonight, you arrested my mind.
When you came to my defense.
With a knife, in the shape of your mouth,
in the form of your body, with the wrath of a god.
Oh, you stood by me.
And I'll stand by my belief.

Oh, I'll stand by my belief.

"Life is (not so) Random"

The strangest thing happened this morning. I came into work whistling a tune, as I opened the double doors leading to the copier room the hinge whistled the very next note in the sequence. Not just the correct note, but the correct sound shape, the correct duration and the correct volume! In fact it was so perfect that it startled me for a moment.

iPod Polo

Ah, at last an iPod in my price range :) First the Battenberg Mac mini now Polo iPod shuffle, cool! What next?

Tuner

GarageBand 2 includes a tuner amongst other things, how lovely.

The Cats Teeth!

The reason why the Mac mini is such good value for money is not because of hardware, it's because of iLife 05. iLife 04 was great, but the 05 edition seems to be in another league. Seriously is there anyone else out there who could offer such a complete software and hardware solution for just £339? Anyone?

Cat Amongst The Pigeons!

Well well, after weeks of crazy rumours, some even making it into national newspapers, the Mac mini is here! If this doesn’t sell by the millions then I think its pretty safe to say that no Mac every will. I love that it looks like its been sliced from a big silver Mac cake, Battenberg style!

Weeds!

Weeding is never fun at the best of times, but weeding at the end of December is just horrible. Oh well at least some good came from it--this great picture! Look how nicely the colours match the blog :)

We sit and watch umbrellas fly . . .

Looking out at the Votuporanga skyline made me think of another slightly more famous skyline ;)
